I recently met with a group of husbands and wives caring for a spouse or partner diagnosed with dementia and we had the most fascinating and invigorating conversation. Our group has met consistently for more than a year, and the space we have created is imbued with a high degree of safety and trust, which allows members to share a bit more vulnerably than they might otherwise.
During our initial check-in, one of the members requested some time to do some process work. The conversation that came next was remarkable, mostly because I can count on one hand the number of times the topic has been broached in the nearly 15 years I’ve ran caregiver support groups. The member wanted to talk about sex.
